The second piano is the pristine Steinway in Sakamoto’s West Village apartment, where he composes most of his music. He says it feels like playing “the corpse of a piano that had drowned.” The instrument sounds off-kilter, haunted, still beautiful somehow. Sakamoto presses his fingers to its keys.
